Thassos boutique hospitality residences

Set on the island of Thassos, this proposal envisions three boutique summer residences conceived as intimate architectural retreats that redefine the notion of seasonal living. Rather than framing hospitality as a transient condition, the project approaches it as a form of permanence - an immersive domestic landscape where architecture, nature, and daily ritual unfold within a slower Mediterranean rhythm.
Each residence is accessed independently, establishing a clear sense of autonomy and privacy from the outset. This careful orchestration of entrances dissolves any perception of shared infrastructure, allowing each dwelling to operate as a self-contained sanctuary while remaining part of a discreetly composed ensemble.
The architectural language is embedded within a sequence of concealed Mediterranean gardens. These layered landscapes are composed of dense local vegetation, framed sightlines, and filtered light conditions beneath mature trees. Within this vegetal structure, private pools are seamlessly integrated, surrounded by deep planting that intensifies seclusion and reinforces the sensation of inhabiting an enclosed natural world.
Rather than reading as a unified development, the project is articulated as a fragmented village-like composition. Each residence is treated as a distinct architectural object, carefully positioned within the landscape to calibrate privacy, orientation, and spatial dialogue with its surroundings. This dispersed arrangement creates a subtle rhythm of built form and vegetation, echoing the spatial logic of traditional Mediterranean settlements without replicating them literally.
Material expression draws directly from local construction culture and island vernacular. White plastered volumes, ceramic roof tiles, timber elements, and natural stone surfaces establish a restrained yet tactile palette rooted in the architectural identity of the region. This material clarity is complemented by a landscape strategy that prioritises native planting, expansive tree canopies, and white gravel surfaces that reflect and modulate the strong summer light.
Together, architecture and landscape form a continuous and coherent system - one that balances refinement with restraint, and contemporary design with regional continuity. The result is a contemporary interpretation of Mediterranean habitation that aligns discreet luxury with the enduring atmospheric qualities of island life.
