Complex of two summer residences in East Crete, Greece

In the mountains of East Crete, overlooking the Aegean sea, this small residential complex consists of two independent houses that are surrounded by a stone podium. The podium is planted with rich vegetation and features two spacious swimming pools, one for each house. The low rise houses, each briefly 90 sqm, accommodate a common space with an open-plan kitchen and a sitting area with a fireplace, a mezzanine with a working zone, as well as two independent bedrooms with their bathrooms. Because the inside-outside life is very important in the Mediterranean South, we decided to design a big pergola around the house that increases the cozyness of the outdoor space while simultaneously providing an infrastructure for the plants to grow over, and enhance the shading of the outdoor space.
